A daredevil 21-year-old suspected rapist did the unthinkable in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, when he stormed the home of his victim, Mercy Godwin, 29, located at No. 18 Daniel Obodo Street in an attempt to rape her but ended up setting her home ablaze.

According to reports, the suspect identified as Jonathan Esiuwu gained entry into the victim’s compound by jumping the fence and making his way into her room in an attempt to rape her.

However, the victims sister, Joy Godwin, who was in another room reportedly hit the head of the suspect severally with a plank thereby thwarting Esiuwu’s rape attempt.

In anger, the suspect who is now in police custody resorted to setting their home ablaze after his rape attempt failed.

Joy said: “I was surprised when the suspect scaled the fence. I heard him tip-toeing towards our door. I had no other option than to grab a heavy stick and used it on his head.”

The incident was confirmed by Zanna M. Ibrahim, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, who revealed that the arrested suspect who will soon be paraded in court for arson fled the scene of the incident after the complainant hit him with a wood on his head.

“The suspect returned for a reprisal. He set the house on fire, prompting the complainant to run to the Orerokpe Police Station, to report him. Our detectives went and arrested him.”
