Despite arrest, PDP stalwart vows to continue protest against secret trial of Kanu

Former head of New Media for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Deji Adeyanju, who was arrested on Friday and later released by police, has insisted that the protest against the planned secret trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government must go on.

Adeyanju, the convener of Pro-democracy and Good Governance Group, Concerned Nigerians and Brian Jonah Dennis, were picked by the security operatives Friday morning following a peaceful protest against government’s plot to secretly try the secessionist group leader, Kanu.

Before his arrest, Adeyanju had on Thursday alleged that he received life threats from Nigerian Police, the army and the men of the Department of State Security Services (DSS), during a meeting with the security operatives in Abuja, where they persuaded him to step-down the planned peaceful protest.

He was eventually arrested on Friday morning.

After he was released later on Friday, Adeyanju, revealed that he was further threatened by the police to desist from the protest.

He however said that he told the security men that there was no going back on the peaceful protests against injustice and abuse of Nigeria’s Constitution by President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government.

“I have told them that the protests will continue. We will not stop and we will not be cowed,” he said on his twitter handle.

He further assured that a new date for the #SayNoToSecretTrial protest will be announced soon.

Following his arrest, some civil society groups in a statement signed by convener of the Movement for the Advancement of National Transformation (MANTRA), Comrade Jude Ndukwe, had warned that should Nigerian Police not release Adeyanju immediately, that there was going to be consequences.

“We have just heard of the arrest of Prince Deji Adeyanju, convener of Concerned Nigerians, over his organization of a peaceful rally tagged #FreeNnamdiKanu which was meant to, once again, bring the attention of the world to the many inhuman treatments which the despotic government of Muhammadu Buhari has subjected the IPOB leader to including the secret trial he is forced to pass through.

Without much ado, we urgently and strongly demand that Mr Adeyanju be released immediately or this government which has so shamelessly descended into brazen fascism and tyranny in a supposed democratic dispensation will have the wrath of a resolute coalition of civil society organisations to contend with. This nonsense has got to stop!” the group had warned.
