Ex-Gov Elechi won’t be pacified, rejects Gov Umahi’s car gift

Chief Martin Elechi, the immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, has rejected a N29 million car gift from the present Governor of the state, Dave Umahi  over unsettled scores.
The Governor, in recognition of the contributions of former leaders of the state, is said to have purchased four SUVs at N29 million each for three former governors; Ogbonnaya Onu, Sam Egwu and Martin Elechi as well as a former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim.
But Elechi is reported to have returned his own car, on the basis that the governor, who was his deputy while he reigned as the governor of the state, has been unfair to him, accusing him and his two children of corruption.
In a letter to the state governor, Elechi wondered what must have warranted the governor who has been busy persecuting him and his family, to now present him with a car gift.
He said, “As if the bad verdict on projects is not enough, there is the saga of malicious and false petitions against me and two of my children to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)… This is courtesy of Your Excellency’s ingenuity with your team players.”
Umahi denied ever asking the EFCC to go after Elechi and his sons, saying that his administration never wrote anything to EFCC.
