Ezenwa not worried over Enyeama's return

Following talks of the possibility of Vincent Enyeama’s return to the national team, Super Eagles home-based goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has said the return of the Lille goalkeeper “is not bad”.

The former Super Eagles captain, who left the team in 2015 after a disagreement with former coach Sunday Oliseh, have been linked for a return as head coach Gernot Rohr is reportedly keen to work with the 2013 African Cup of Nations winner.

Ezenwa, the FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper, admitted Enyeama’s return would sideline the younger goalkeepers, but pointed that the 34-year-old ex-Enyimba star will only be around for one or two years in the team.

“Vincent is a very experienced player who has won things while representing Nigeria,” Ezenwa, the captain of the Super Eagles Team B, told Complete Sports on Monday.

“If the coaches feel he still has a place in the team, then it’s not bad, you know perhaps he will be around for just a year or two more years.”

Enyeama has been named the best goalkeeper in Africa three times in the last seven years, and was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2002, 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

“Of course, those of us other keepers all want to get a piece of the cake, and have our chances to be as successful as he was in the national team.

“Personally, I have picked some tips by watching him and listening to him. I am younger and still have the time to prove myself worthy of being the first choice, and I know some other guys feel the same way.

“We are one big family, it’s not about who plays or not. It doesn’t matter who is in goal at a particular time, it could be Carl Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi or myself,” Ezenwa concluded.

The Super Eagles will be playing South Africa in an AFCON Qualifier in June, and will regroup in the last week of May as the team will begin their quest for a ticket to Cameroon 2019.
