How family member exposed Goodie Ibru to EFCC over alleged N1.8bn fraud

More facts are coming to light on how the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared a business mogul, Goodie Ibru, wanted.

News of the development, which broke Wednesday, had sent shock waves to the famous Ibru family and its business conglomerate, some of which have been riddled with internal crisis creating different interest groups.

The anti graft body had in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said Ibru was wanted for many reasons, and asked Nigerians who knew his whereabouts to report to the commission.

This, is even after the commission had filed a suit against him and three other firms with an 11-count charge bordering on conspiracy and diversion of about N1.8 billion property of Ikeja Hotels Plc.

The firms listed in the suit marked LD/1711C/2015 are Associated Ventures International Limited, IHL Services Limited and Clearview Investment Limited.

According to the charge sheet, Ibru and the firms, were said to have between January and December, 2010, conspired amongst themselves to steal by fraudulently converting the sum of N867.7 million, property of Ikeja Hotels Plc.

A very close member of the larger Ibru family said, “We know who is behind this move. You know there have been increased hit-backs in the businesses belonging to this (Ibru) family, especially since the death of Alex (Ibru) the Guardian publisher in November 2011″.

“His death has so much created fronts of claims and counter claims over the businesses and in particular the Federal Palace and Sheraton Hotel ownership, jointly owned by members of the family.

“As at today, back-biting has grown the more with the demise of the eldest Ibru, Michael, which had seen all manner of agitations coming up, part of it being the in-house petition believed to have emanated from a member of the family, who was frustrated from moves to take over the board chairmanship of Federal Palace Hotel from the embattled business man, recently.”

Ripples Nigeria also gathered that the issues have seen some elders of the family summoning all sons and daughters of the Ibru family for an emergency meeting on Friday, but wives married into the family were said not to be part of the meeting, described as very crucial by those behind it.
