FG postpones SGF, SSGs annual retreat following Lawal’s suspension

In what is believed to be due to the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, the Federal Government, has shelved indefinitely a retreat that involves his office.

This was as the Federal Government on Friday, said that the 2017 retreat for the SGF and Secretaries to State Governments (SSGs) has been postponed indefinitely.

The announcement was made by the director of press in the office of the SGF, Bolaji Adebiyi, who did not give any reason why the retreat, which was scheduled to hold from April 23 to April 25 in Yola, Adamawa was deferred.

He only said that a new date would be announced in the coming days.

Adebiyi announced, “The annual retreat of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation with Secretaries to the State Governments scheduled to hold in Yola, Adamawa State, has been postponed. A new date will be communicated to all participants and invited guests in due course.

“The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) regrets any inconvenience.”

After allegations and clamour for his sack by the Senate and other Nigerians, and the initial clearance by President Muhammadu Buhari of any wrongdoing, Lawal was eventually suspended on Wednesday.

His suspension followed a Senate ad-hoc committee finding that the SGF violated public service rules by chairing a company which got a grass-cutting contract while he was in office.

A committee set up by President Buhari and headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has been mandated to investigate the suspended SGF Lawal.
