Nigeria’s Falconets have recorded their first win on Wednesday at the on-going FIFA U-20 Women World Cup in Papua New Guinea, as they beat Canada 3-1 in the second Group game today.

The Peter Dedebvu’s side had been defeated in their first group game against Japan by six goals to nothing, but has pulled this off against Canada, in what can be termed as a ‘bounce back’.

Canada took the lead on 15 minutes through Gabrielle Carle who hit a left-foot shot on to the far corner off a cutback from Deanne Rose.

One minute into added time Chinasa Uchendu drew the Falconets level from the penalty spot after Canada skipper Bianca St Georges handled the ball inside the 18 yard box.
The Falconets went 2-1 up in the 46th minute after Joy Bokiri smashed in a left-foot shot after an initial clearance by a Canadian defender came off Chiwendu Ihezuo and on to the path of Bokiri.

And in the 73rd minute Ihezuo made it 3-1.

The Falconets, whose win against Canada has moved them to third position in Group B, will face Spain in their next game on Sunday.

Spain, who pipped Japan 1-0 in the group’s other game, is now at the top of the group with 6 points.
