Google sides with Apple’s refusal to hack gunman’s phone

Google has come to Apple’s defense after the luxury phone making company denied the FBI allowance into the iPhone 5C of the San Bernardino shooter–under the idea that it would set a bad precedent for future cases.

‎The decision by Apple which is seen as a landmark case for tech companies and US privacy, was supported by Google CEO Sundar Pichai who took to Twitter to address the hazy situation Apple was put in by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

“Forcing companies to enable hacking could compromise users’ privacy. We know that law enforcement and intelligence agencies face significant challenges in protecting the public against crime and terrorism”. He tweeted.

Continuing, Pichai in his lengthy tweet noted that backdoor requests should only be granted based on valid legal orders.

“We build secure products to keep your information safe and we give law enforcement access to data based on valid legal orders
“But that’s wholly different than requiring companies to enable hacking of customer devices & data. Could be a troubling precedent
“Looking forward to a thoughtful and open discussion on this important issue”.
