The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the governorship election in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State after polling 9,276 to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who scored 295 votes.
The result announced by INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Siminialayi, showed that a total of 76,613 were recorded as registered voters while accredited voters stood at 10,393.
Prof. Siminialayi reported that there were six incidents of BVAS snatching leading to cancellation of results in some polling units and wards and that affected a total of 4,462 voters whose votes were disqualified.

Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin, wins third term bid to represent Ibarapa East
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has won the House of Assembly election for Ibarapa East State Constituency seat.
The Returning Officer, Prof. John Oladeji, while announcing the results on Sunday in Ibadan, said Ogundoyin, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scored 10,039 votes.
The APC candidate, Aderounmu Adeolu, scored 7,111 votes, while the Accord Party candidate, Oladeni Tunde scored 2,724 votes.
Prof. Oladeji while declaring the results, said, “Ogundoyin having scored the highest number of votes in the Ibarapa East State Constituency election is hereby declared the winner of the election”.
Ogundoyin’s victory will be his third term as a member of Oyo State House of Assembly.

INEC declares PDP winner of Ekeremor Constituency I Assembly seat
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Bayelsa State House of Assembly election for Ekeremor Constituency I, has been declared winner of Saturday’s poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In the announcement made by INEC’s Returning Officer, Bernard Perekemefa Ebiasuode, Porri scored 4,216 votes, with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) coming second with 1,562 votes, while that of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), polled 973 votes to come third.
PDP wins Yenagoa Constituency III
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Yenagoa Constituency III in Bayelsa State, Elemeforo Teddy Tombara, has been declared winner of Saturday’s House of Assembly poll.
According to the Returning Officer, Dr Onukwu James, Tomabara scored a total of 4,206 votes to emerge winner.

PDP wins Sagbama Constituency I and II in Bayelsa Assembly
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared winner of Sagbama Constituency I and II House of Assembly seat in Bayelsa State with 9,633 votes.
The result was announced by the INEC Returning Officer, Dr Anthony C. Okoye.
In the Sagbama Constituency II, the PDP also won by 6,462, according to the Returning Officer, Prof Diri T. Teilanyo.

Voting commences at VGC, Lagos (Photos)
Voting commenced at the Victoria Garden City in Lagos State on Sunday as promised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Voting in the estate was postponed on Saturday after residents refused to vote at the polling units set up outside the gate to the estate. As they said security was not guaranteed outside the estate.
They also questioned why INEC decided to set up the polling units outside the estate, as against the previous arrangement of having the units at the estate field.
The INEC officials on their part claimed they would not enter the estate, as they were held hostage during the presidential and National Assembly election, by residents of the VGC.
PDP beats APC to claim first Assembly seat in Kogi State
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated the main opposition the All Progressive Congress (APC) to claim the first House of Assembly seat in Kogi State.
The candidate of the PDP for Ogori Magongo local government in Kogi State, Bode Ogumola, has been declared winner of the House of Assembly by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ogunmola was declared winner in the early hours of Sunday by the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Mr Ekundayo Mejebi, at the council’s collation centre at Magongo.
According to Mejebi the PDP candidate amassed 2,910 votes to defeat his closest rival, Major Akerejoka of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who recorded 2,162 votes.
Kwara State governor, AbdulRazaq, wins polling unit
The incumbent governor of Kwara State AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has won his polling unit in the ongoing Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who cast his vote in his Idigba Polling Unit 004 of Adewole Ward in Ilorin West, polled no fewer than 243 votes to defeat the PDP candidate who scored 58 voters.
The governor had earlier urged more voters to come out to exercise their franchise, following reports of low turnouts in some areas.
“It’s been a mixed bag in terms of the turnout — appreciably large in some places and quite low in some areas — and we urge more people to come out,” he told reporters after voting alongside his wife, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq, and other members of his family.
“Going by the turnout in this polling unit, this is impressive. But nationwide, including in parts of Kwara state, the turnout is a bit lower than in the presidential and national assembly elections”.
KWARA: Lai Mohammed wins polling unit as INEC uploads results of 1,701 PUs
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed has won his polling unit polling unit 006 Oro Ward 2 in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, for the APC.
Lai Mohammed delivered his polling unit with 174 votes in the governorship election while the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party came second with 22 votes.
The Social Democratic Party polled 16 votes while the Labour Party didn’t record any votes.
In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded results of 1,701 polling units from the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Logistics error forces INEC to postpone elections in Plateau ward
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the governorship and house of assembly elections in the Butura ward of Bokkos local government area of Plateau State due to a logistics error.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oliver Agundu, who announced the postponement on Saturday in Jos, said election materials including ballot papers for the ward were mistakenly taken to another local government area in the state.
He added that the election would now hold on Sunday.
The REC noted that the postponement was necessary in order not to disenfranchise the members of the community.
PDP defeats APC in Kaduna Government House
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru Kudan defeated his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Uba Sani, in one of the polling units in Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Kudan polled 77 votes to floor the APC candidate who garnered 40 votes in polling unit 014 located inside the Government House.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) got one vote each while the Labour Party scored zero.
APC edges PDP in Buhari’s polling unit
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday won his polling unit for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Katsina State.
The ward’s Collation Officer, Hamza Yusuf, who announced the results, said the APC polled 261 votes to edge out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which got 32 votes in the governorship election.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) recorded zero votes.
In the assembly election, APC scored 240 votes while PDP recorded 50 votes.
APC’s Hyacinth Alia floors PDP rival inside Benue Government House
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Benue State, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, on Saturday won the two polling units at the Government House in Makurdi.
The cleric-politician polled 130 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Engr. Titus Uba, who scored 43 votes at the Arts theatre polling unit 011.
At the Protocol polling unit 022, Alia scored 36 votes while the PDP candidate garnered 10 votes.
Nasarawa speaker wins polling unit for APC
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi won his polling unit for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections in the state.
The speaker won his Galadima (B) Polling Unit 009 in Ugya /Umaisha district after he polled 153 to defeat Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 48 votes in the election.

Armed thugs scatter ballot papers in Kogi State (Photos)
Armed thugs wreaked havoc at a polling unit at Olamaboro Local Government of Kogi State during Saturday House of Assembly elections in the state.
Eyewitnesses told journalists the thugs came in their numbers and scattered ballot papers at the polling unit.
The development forced eligible voters to scamper in different directions.
NIGER: Voters reject bank transfer, demand food in exchange for votes
Scores of eligible voters in Garam, a community in Tafa LGA of Niger State have refused bank transfers from frantic party agents in the area to sell their votes to any party.
Reports say many voters rejected the bank transfer promise of party representatives on ground and instead demanded food as a condition to sell their votes in Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
Further reports revealed that the voters took the decision because of what happened during the February 25 presidential election, when most of the promises made by party representatives were not redeemed.
Saraki blames low voter turnout in Kwara on disappointment by INEC
Dr Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President, has blamed the low turnout of voters in the ongoing Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Kwara State, to the disappointment of the people in INEC.
The politician who spoke to newsmen in Ilorin after casting his vote blamed INEC for the low turnout of eligible voters due to their dissatisfaction with the national electoral body.
“So far the process started early and things have been peaceful. But the voters’ turnout is low. Many reasons can be adduced to it. Personally, I think people have been disappointed in INEC in the last election.” Saraki said while speaking to journalists.
Political thug shot dead by soldier at polling unit In Cross River
A suspected political thug has been reportedly shot dead by a soldier at a polling unit in Ogoja local government area in northern Cross River State.
The thug identified only as Joe, was said to have been killed while attempting to snatch a ballot box at the unit on Saturday afternoon.
The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident, said the Command got the information but however, said the details had not been ascertained.
An election observer said the victim was shot by the soldier after he led a gang to the polling unit to disrupt the election and snatch the ballot box.
“The APC thug who is well known in the area as Joe, was shot dead by a soldier after he led his gang to the polling unit where they tried to disrupt the voting and snatch the ballot box. There was a rowdy scene and in the process, a soldier shot him and he died on the spot,” he said.
Thugs attack, injure 16 INEC ad hoc staff in Anambra
Thugs, on Saturday, attacked and injured over 16 ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and destroyed electoral materials including ballot boxes, at Odoakpu Ward 7 in Onitsha South Local Government Area Anambra State during the House of Assembly Election.
According to reports, five INEC adhoc staff were seriously wounded in the attack, while over ten sustained minor injuries.
The thugs were said to have moved from one pooling unit to another in Ward 7 and other Wards in Onitsha South L.G.A.
The INEC adhoc staff were attacked when hoodlums invaded the voting Units. They reportedly carted away some ballot boxes, destroyed them and scattered other voting materials being used for the election.
The voting units invaded by the thugs included Nnewi Street, Margret Street and Metu Memorial Secondary School Onitsha South.
One of the injured INEC ad hoc staff, Mrs Amaka Ozoha, while narrating her ordeal, said the hoodlums barged into the voting units chanting “APGA or no other party” and other pro APGA songs, started kicking and beating everybody in sight with sticks and other dangerous weapons.
“We were surprised about the attack and their reason, all we know is that election was going on peacefully before they invaded the voting units and started beating us and destroying the materials while carting away ballot boxes”, Mrs Uzoha said.
Atiku blames INEC for low voter turnout in Adamawa
Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has said the incompetence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) caused low voter turnout in Adamawa State.
Atiku, who contested as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the presidential election held on February 25, said this on Saturday.
He accused INEC of being partisan and incompetence in the presidential election, hinting this discouraged residents of Adamawa State from participating in the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
“Sadly, there’s a low voter turnout in today’s election, no thanks to INEC’s partisanship and incompetence that delivered a sham election on February 25.
“I hope the electoral body will seize this second chance to redeem its discredited reputation,” the former Vice President wrote on social media platform, Twitter.
He had cast his vote in his hometown at Yola, Adamawa, for his preferable candidates contesting in the Adamawa State Assembly and governorship election.
Atiku also urged Nigerians to make their votes count in the ongoing Governorship and States House of Assembly elections.
The politician said he was proud to participate in what he described as “crucial democratic process” that will determine the future of Adamawa.
“I just voted in the House of Assembly and Governorship elections here in Yola, Adamawa State.
“Proud to participate in this crucial democratic process towards a sustainable future for our dear state. Let’s come together and make our votes count”, he tweeted.
Benue State NASS member allegedly battered by military personnel
Kpam Sokpo, a House of Representatives member representing Buruku Federal Constituency, Benue State has allegedly been beaten to a pulp by military personnel.
The federal lawmaker was reportedly beaten to a pulp by soldiers of 401 Special Forces Brigade in Benue State on Saturday morning during the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly election.
According to reports, Sokpo was beaten at the Old Barn in Gboko town in Gboko Local Government Area of the state by the soldiers who allegedly arrived at his location at 2:30am.
The disconsolate lawmaker who narrated his ordeal to newsmen on Saturday said that he was battered by military personnel for no reasons whatsoever.
He said, “I don’t know what came over them, I came to the hotel where I was staying in Gboko, Old Barn, around 2:30am and I sat there with some of my friends.
“And shortly after, about five trucks filled with over 60 soldiers came to the place.
‘‘When they alighted from their vehicles they just took position.
“I got up from where I was sitting to do something and one of them approached me and asked why I was walking in the manner I was walking.
“And as I was talking he slapped me in the face. I asked why he did that, and I introduced myself as a House of Representatives member. I told him he did not know me and just slapped me in the face?
“Before I knew what was happening more than 30 of them just pounced on me using the butt of their guns to injure me. Some of the guns they used on me even broke into pieces. As I speak with you I have stitches on my face, on my head and I have all kinds of injuries on my body.
“While this was going on, their Commanding Officer came in and calmed the situation a bit. Shortly after they went on to harass me and collected everything in my car including every piece of paper.
“In fact, the one who started assaulting me threatened that he could even kill me. Unfortunately I did not get their names because they removed their name tags before assaulting me.
“Believe me, I do not know why they did this to me. I have gone to the hospital to stitch the cuts and treat myself, but I have reported the matter to the Police and the Security Adviser to the governor of Benue State.” Sokpo added in part.
Soludo votes In Aguata, commends INEC
Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the early commencement of voting process in the state.
Soludo made the commendation after voting around 11.30 am at his Unit 002 at Ovuiyi Umueze, Isuofia in Aguata local government area of the state.
“From the information available to me, I have sampled views across the state and it seems to be going on fairly well in terms of deployment of logistics and early commencement of election.
“I think there is a great improvement compared to the previous election in terms of the arrival and deployment of materials. It seems to be going on well, relatively peaceful”, Soludo said when he addresses reporters after voting.
Soludo, who expressed optimism that the will of the people would prevail, however regretted that the turn out of voters was low compared to the previous election.
Massive vote buying reported in Cross River
Massive vote buying has been reported in several local government areas of Cross River State which has led to the disruption of the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday.
According to election observers, immediately after the accreditation of voters for the commencement of the polls across the 18 Local Government Councils, hoodlums and political thugs began unleashing terror on voters while party agents embarked on open vote buying at different polling units.
The observers said the most affected councils were Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Ugep and Yakurr local government areas.
A party agent who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that in Yakurr LGA, an APC agent was openly offering money to voters in the licensing office polling unit.
“In Calabar Municipality, Ward 6, Polling Unit 001, there were irregularities being done by APC and PDP agents such as assisting voters in voting in the polling booth; writing names going, and voting and getting money as well as refreshments after voting is done. They were openly buying votes even in the presence of security operatives,” he said.
“In the same Ward 6, Polling Units 12 and 13, by Presbyterian Primary School, Ikot Ishie, in Calabar South, it was a battle of vote-buying from both the PDP and APC. They paid between N500 to N2000 and above, depending on your weight.
“What they do is that you write your name, go and vote, come back with ink in your thumb, and get your money. For the other, you write your name first, vote and come get your money,” he said.
Minister Lai, SDP gov’ship candidate explain low voters’ turnout in Kwara
Nigeria’s current Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kwara State, Hakeem Lawal have both given reasons for the seeming low turnout of eligible voters in the state.
Minutes after casting his vote in Ilorin, Lai Mohammed, a stalwart of the All Progressive Congress (APC) blamed the low turnout of voters on late changes by INEC.
According to him, the low turnout of voters in the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly election in Kwara State was as a result of the late change of ‘‘polling unit venues in the state’’.
In a related development, Lawal, blamed the low voter turnout in the ongoing gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections on transportation and security issues.

KWARA: Low turnout of voters despite early arrival of INEC officials
There seems to be a low turnout of voters in Kwara State for the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state, despite the early arrival of INEC officials and materials.
Reports say polling units including; unit 010, Badi, Agbeyangi ward, Ilorin, and unit 004, Oke-Ose, are experiencing a low turn out of voters in the ongoing elections.
At polling unit 010, Badi, Agbeyangi ward, Ilorin, only 2 voters had voted out of the 395 registered voters for the exercise while at Polling unit 004, Oke-Ose, out of the over 800 registered voters, only 56 had voted as at 10:00 am.
Meanwhile, Senator Yahya Oloriegbe, a Senator who represented Kwara Central Senatorial District at the 9th Senate has cast his vote at Ode-Oloriegbe polling unit 008 Alore area, Ilorin.

OGUN: NDLEA nabs four agents with money, credit cards to buy votes
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested four persons suspected of being involved in vote-buying.
This incident happened during an election duty stop and search exercise and led to the arrest of four party agents with hundreds of money credit cards, to buy votes at Ibara housing estate, Ogun state.
An NDLEA statement said, “Each card contains 10k and activated to cash with a code.
“The Chairman NDLEA, Brig-Gen Buba Marwa has directed they be handed over to the police after proper documentation.”
Political thugs attack domestic observer in Enugu
Mr. Nnana Nwangwu, a domestic observer with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, was on Saturday attacked by political thugs in Obiagu, Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Nnanna cried out after the attack, after he was rescued with the intervention of the military.
According to Nwangwu, he was at the polling unit located within the Obiagu Road Primary School to observe the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly elections when a political thug attacked him.
“A thug attacked me for observing the process. He ordered that I should leave and ceased my phone. Thanks to the Nigerian Army who intervened,” Nnanna said.
Re-election, not a do or die affair –Bauchi gov, Bala
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, cast his vote at the ongoing election in the state on Saturday, as he seeks re-election.
Mohammed assumed office on May 29, 2019, and is seeking a second term which will extend his stay in office till 2027.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member cast his ballot in his hometown, Duguri, Alkaleri local government area of the state, where the State House of Assembly election is also ongoing.
After voting, Mohammed said he would not contest the outcome of the governorship election, stating that the election was not a do-or-die affair.
He commended voter turnout, while his media aid, Mouktar Gidado, condemned the preparation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which kept voters waiting for hours.
Gidado said election materials arrived late, as INEC staff were not on the ground until after 9:30 am at Haruna Memorial Primary School ward 029 in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

After casting his vote, Okowa called on INEC not to repeat mistakes made in the presidential and National Assembly polls.
He also urged Nigerians to come out enmasse to cast their votes despite shortcomings of the electoral body.
Allegation of vote buying trails voting in Gombe
While voting has commenced for the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Gombe State and has been peaceful so far, the citizens are being swayed to exchange their votes for money.
The amount being offered can’t be ascertained at the moment, but according to Connected Development, a non-partisan NGO, vote buying is ongoing in some polling units (PU).
It was revealed that some voters at PU 011 Usman Asibit, Gombe LGA and PU 076 Barunde polling unit, Akko LGA, Gombe state, were gathered by unidentified persons encouraging them to sell their votes.
Both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian police have spoken against vote buying, which often involves party agents enticing voters.

BVAS, other election materials missing as police rescues kidnapped INEC ad hoc staff in Imo
Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and other sensitive election materials could not be found after police operatives in Imo State rescued 19 INEC ad hoc staff who were kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday in the state.
INEC confirmed the kidnap and rescue of the staff on Saturday.
According to the Commission, the 19 INEC ad-hoc staff were on their way to seven different polling units in Ugbelie ward 06 in Ideato South LGA of Imo State when they were abducted.
The spokesperson for INEC in the state, Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, disclosed that the rescue took place after a distress call and information about the incident was made to the operatives who immediately swung into action.
She however confirmed that all the election materials which include BVAS and sensitive materials were not recovered.

Lagos Dep Gov, Hamzat, lauds electoral conduct
The handling of the gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections was commended by the deputy governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, who made reference to improvements from the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The deputy governor spoke with reporters shortly after casting his ballot in the Epe region of the state at around 10:00 am, and he discussed his experience with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
“It took me probably 10 seconds for BVAS to accredit me. It’s seamless. So far, so good. We will know what happens in other units very soon,” he said.
“With everything that I’ve heard so far, voting has started earlier than three weeks ago. So, I think it seems better as of this morning. But we find out later in the day.
“They [voters] are here early, which is better than last election. So, we must give them credit. It’s getting better; it’s a work in progress, so we’ll see as the day moves on.”
Asked about his expectations for the outcome of the elections, he chuckled before saying, “That my party will win, that’s my expectation.”
On the voter turnout in comparison to the federal elections, Hamzat said it was too early to say.
“A lot of people also gauge: ‘Are they ready? Have they started?’ So, it’s a bit early to make those types of statements. We’ll see during the day at 12, 1 [pm]; we will see what happens,” he said.
GUBER POLLS: Buhari casts his vote, affirms credibility of election
On Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari cast his votes for the governorship and states house of assembly elections at his Daura country home in Katsina.
He arrived at PU 003 Kofar Baru, Babban Tone quarters of Sarkin Yara A ward in Daura at approximately 9:51 a.m.
After casting his vote, Buhari expressed confidence that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), would emerge victorious in the state.
He also stated that he has delivered on his promises to the Nigerian people, particularly in the area of conducting credible elections.
Lagos Gov, Sanwo-Olu, casts his vote

The governor also praised the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for arriving early to the polling unit as well as the turnout of voters.
He said, “My wife and I are happy with the turnout. We are happy with the turnout at this polling unit. I am told that they came right on time and voting is on. I think it is time for us to see and understand that this process is not meant to be a process of violence.
“Election that leads to a democratic process is the best form of validation of what true democracy should be about. And so I want to reiterate again that this contest is about peace, it’s about progress, it’s about prosperity for our state and country at large.”

‘We’re not uploading results’, INEC staff tells voters in Lagos (Video)
An unidentified adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) on Saturday told voters in the Aguda area of Lagos State that they are not meant to upload elections results from the governorship and house of assembly elections.
She was captured on video announcing to voters, saying “if you want to vote, vote, we are not uploading, if you don’t want, go home. The party officials are aware. We are not uploading”.

Seyi Makinde casts vote
The Oyo State governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Seyi Makinde, has cast his vote, in the ongoing governorship polls.
Makinde voted at the Polling Unit 01, Ward 11, Abayomi area, Iwo Road, in Ibadan North-East Local.
VP, Osinbajo cast his vote
The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday cast his vote in the governorship and House of Assembly elections, after which he described the process as “peaceful”.
Osinbajo lauded the process after voting at his polling unit 14, Egunrege Ward 1, Ikenne in Ikenne local government area of Ogun State.
High turnout in Gombe, as residents vote next governor, state lawmakers
Residents in Gombe State have trooped out in large numbers to cast their votes in the governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The turnout on Saturday had been rated higher than what was recorded during the Presidential and National Assembly elections which held on February 25, 2023.
According to images seen online via Twitter and some media reports, residents arrived at some polling units early and in large numbers, as the presence of security personnel raised confidence of smooth and non-violent election for governorship and State House of Assembly.
The Presiding officer of INEC, at Doma Area court 003, Nafiu Ibrahim, said the electoral members arrived as early as around 7:46 am at the polling units, with accreditation and voting commencing simultaneously immediately after they sorted out their materials.
At Gidan Magabi 030 and Kofar Sarkin Dukku Poling unit, voting began around 8:11 am and 8:08 am according to their respective Presiding Officers; Emanuella Job and Amarachi Emelobe.
Job and Emelobe echoed smooth election since voting began, stating there had been no attacks or threats to the voters casting their votes.

Accreditation begins at polling unit 007 in Niger State after replacement of damaged list
INEC has commenced accreditation of voters list at PU 007 Bakin-Iku Tafa LGA Niger state.
Voters have been pictured checking their names, and being accredited and casting their votes simultaneously after the replacement of the damaged registered name list at the polling unit.
President-elect, Tinubu, votes in Lagos governorship polls
The President-elect, Bola Tinubu has voted in the ongoing governorship elections in Lagos State.
He exercised his franchise while encouraging others to vote peacefully.
“I just joined other Nigerians in exercising my civic duty in the ongoing governorship and state assembly elections. I encourage you all to go out and vote peacefully,” Tinubu stated in a tweet
Protest at Lagos INEC centre over non payment of staff
There was a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Registration Area Centre in the Amuwo-Odofin Nursery and Primary School, Mile 2, Lagos.
This was over the delay in the payment of the INEC’s adhoc staff.
Some of the adhoc Staff revealed that they were promised N15,000 each before they left the RAC but they are yet to be paid.

Political thugs hijack, burn voting materials in Bayelsa
Political thugs have allegedly hijacked and destroyed voting materials meant for polling units in Wards 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Constituency 5 of the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State meant for the House of Assembly elections.

Absence of security officials delay movement of INEC ad hoc staff, election materials in Imo
There was a delay in the movement of ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and election materials to Ohaji/Egbema and the Owerri North local government areas of Imo State, due to lack of security officials.
Sources in the area confirmed this development at about 07:10 am, adding that the people were worried.
One of the sources who spoke said: “The ad-hoc staff is ready. The buses are available. But now the problem is that we are waiting for the security people to come and escort us to start work.”
Confirming the development, the Imo INEC, Public Relations Officer, Chineye Osuji, said that the police authority has assured that the “police officers coming to escort the ad-hoc staff are coming from Owerri and we are waiting.”
Thugs patrol Lagos streets as fears mount over voters’ intimidation (Video)

In a video shared on twitter, the thugs were heard threatening residents to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or stay away from the polling booths.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the threats issued by MC Oluomo, against Igbos in the state ahead of the governorship election.
Force spokesman, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, described the threat by MC Oluomo against Igbos as a joke.
Featuring on Channels Television, Olumuyiwa assured that the Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into MC Oluomo’s inciting comments.

Nigerians will again go to the polls today to elect governors in 28 out of the 36 states of the federation. They will also vote to pick their representatives for the states houses of assembly in all 36 states.
The governorship election will not hold in six states namely, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Bayelsa, Edo, Anambra, Imo and Kogi states as polls to the offices of governors in these states are held off-cycle and not part of the general election.
Today’s elections come two weeks after the presidential and National Assembly elections were held on February 28, which produced a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect.

The governorship and state houses of assembly elections were initially slated for March 11, but was shifted forward by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to what it said was time needed to reconfigure the BVAS machine used for the polls.
