Five feared dead, two missing in Burkina Faso church attack

Some gunmen in Ondo state on Monday evening killed a police inspector at a checking point around Isua-Ise Akoko Road in Akoko South East Local Government Area.

It was learnt that the deceased and his colleagues were surprised by an ambush laid by the gunmen at a police checkpoint they were monitoring in the state.

The state Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, while confirming the incident said “The operatives of the command had already begun investigation and manhunt for the criminals that perpetrated the evil”.

He added that “Our men are already combing the bush and I want to assure you that they would be arrested very soon.”

A police source said the other policemen at the checkpoint were lucky as they escaped from the scene as the assailants’ attack caught them unaware.

The source added that; “The policemen were always on that road for the past one year to check the activities of the bandits in the area. But it was unfortunate that some hoodlums just came from nowhere and opened fire on the policemen at the checkpoint. While Mr. Lasisi was killed other policemen at the checkpoint ran for their lives.”

The source also disclosed that after killing the policeman, the hoodlums went away with his gun.

It was also gathered that the corps of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of  the Ipe Akoko General Hospital while policemen had moved into the bush trailing the hoodlums.
