House of Reps, home of corruption, Jibrin asserts

Jibrin denies asking Buhari to resign

The sacked Chairmn of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has said the lower chamber of the National Assembly is the most corrupt legislative house in the country.

Jibrin, who has been locked in allegations and counter allegations of corrupt practices and budget padding against the leadership of the House, stated this to mark 30 days of his crusade against the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and three other principal officers.

It would be recalled that Jibrin had launched a crusade against  Dogara, his deputy, Yusuf Lasun, Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa and Minority Whip, Leo Ogor, over allegations that they padded the 2016 budget to the tune of N40bn.

Jibrin brought up the allegations immediately he was removed as the chairman of the Appropriations Committee.

The Kano State born All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmaker said:  “I dare say corruption in the House of Representatives today is more than that of the executive and judiciary combined.

“We shall go on and continue to expose corruption and corrupt persons in the House,” he wrote in a statement.

In his statement titled, ‘30 Days of Dogara-Gate,’ Dogara insisted he would step up the fight to cleanse the legislative arm of government of corruption.

He also said he had expected that Dogara and the three others would have by now be under prosecution, vowing to explore every legal means to ensure that they are brought to justice.

“The truth remains that Dogara, Yussuff, Doguwa, Ogor and others committed monumental fraud in the 2016 Budget, which can be prosecuted under our laws.

“We will explore all legal avenues to ensure that justice is served.

“During this period (30 days), they have struggled to establish one single allegation against me or a single reason for ‘sacking’ me that can stand the test of truth. Every day, the reason for ‘sacking’ me continues to change,” he added.

Jibrin also accused the judiciary and the executive of being corrupt but added the House is far more corrupt than the two put together.
