IGP escapes Reps summon as police frees arrested Lawmaker

The House of Representatives on Thursday rested the move to have the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, summoned over the arrest and detention of a lawmaker.

A Reps member, Mr Abubakar Lado, was arrested and kept for three days at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad detention facility in Abuja.

He was however released on Wednesday after the House had during its plenary earlier in the day, vowed to summon the IGP if the lawmaker was not freed midnight of Wednesday.

The motion to have the IGP summoned was proposed by the House Leader, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.

After Lado reported to the House on Thursday following his release, Gbajabiamila prayed the House that their resolve to have the IGP summoned should be rested.

At the Thursday plenary, Lado thanked his colleagues for coming to his assistance, noting that his arrest was “political.”
