IKOYIGATE: Osinbajo committee interrogates Magu again

The panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari and headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to investigate Babachir Lawal and Ayo Oke, on Friday for the second time in two days, met with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

Lawal and Oke, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) respectively, were on Wednesday suspended by President Buhari following allegation of corruptions involving them.

While Lawal was suspended sequel to the controversial contract award under the Presidential Initiative on North East (PINE), Oke on the other hand got himself suspended following claims that the N18 billion the EFCC discovered in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos belonged to NIA.

The Vice President Osinbajo-led panel which has the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami as members was given 14 days to conclude investigation on the allegations against the two top government officials.

The committee had during its Thursday session summoned Magu and did the same again on Friday.

Magu, who was accosted by newsmen as he stepped out of the meeting, which lasted about two and half hours, declined to answer questions put to him.

He simply said, “Wait for me, I am coming back now”, but never returned until the time this story was filed.

The AGF, who stepped out minutes after Magu did, only told inquisitive newsmen who wanted to know the outcome of the meeting, “go and speak to the chairman.”

Meanwhile, Department of State Security Service (DSS) director-general, Lawal Dauru, whose security report denied Magu’s Senate approval were seen at the Presidential Villa socialising immediately they finished worshiping at the State House mosque with Buhari.
