IMOFEST set to lure tourists, showcase cultural heritage

The rich cultural heritage of Imo will be on display this Christmas as Zorch Concepts light up the State with the maiden edition of IMOFEST. Organizers say the festival, which already has the backing of the government, will create a platform for tourists and residents to relish the best of the season.

The Festival Ambassador, Nwadiuto Iheakanwa (Mrs), said that the three-week event is expected to showcase the immensely rich heritage and culture of Imo people and, at the same time, deepen the capacity of the local people to create value and drive economic growth.

She added that the idea was borne out of the desire to create a unique December experience for the people, as well as project the image of the State as a top tourist destination.

Iheakanwa said; “This is the maiden edition of IMOFEST and it’s a three in one event, specially tagged IMO UNITY FEST, IMO TALENT FEST and IMO COUNTDOWN FEST with particular focus on celebrating and projecting the rich culture of Imo State, exhibition of her wealth of talents as well as celebrating the new year in an atmosphere of fun and thrill respectively.

“We have a vision of ensuring Imo becomes the focal point for tourism and hospitality in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, the week-long festival promises to be a remarkable force to be reckoned with gathering repute both internally and externally and presenting a perfect stage from emblem visibility for buyer and market awareness.”

Expected to attract over 3000 people daily, the carnival, according to Secretary to the State Government, Uche Onyeagocha, will be a rallying point for top class fun and an opportunity for citizens to experience the traditional Imo hospitality.

“Imo is the Eastern Heartland, not only in name, but also practice. ImoFest will not only showcase our rich traditional heritage but the warm disposition of our citizens to visitors,” he said.

He further expressed excitement that the carnival spirit is finally returning to Imo state after a long break.

Onyeagocha commended the organizers for coming up with such a brilliant concept that will enhance the image of Imo and also create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for the people of the state.
