Indebted, Osun hunts out ghost workers

Published

While it battles with payment of salary arrears, the Osun State government is also looking for ways to reduce its debt burden by hunting and weeding out ghost workers from its payroll.

Ripples gathered that the state government has quietly commenced a verification exercise of its work force by announcing that before arrears of salaries will be paid to any of its civil servants, they must first present their first school leaving Certificates.

Sources within the civil service confirmed that workers who recently applied for arrears of salaries were made to fill out a form with specific instructiins to attach photocopies of their primary school certificates.

Nothing wrong with the verification exercise. It just should have been done long before now. The pertinent and pressing issue here right now is to pay workers their long overdue salaries/arrears.
