INDONESIA TSUNAMI: Rescue operatives deploy drones, sniffer dogs as death toll hits 429

The death toll arising from the deadly tsunami which hit the Sunda Strait region of Indonesia has reached 429 lives according to local authorities.

Reports say rescue officials have now deployed the use of drones and sniffer dogs to search for survivors along the devastated west coast of Java.

“There are several locations that we previously thought were not affected,” said Yusuf Latif, spokesman for the national search and rescue agency.

“But now we are reaching more remote areas…and in fact there are many victims there,” he added.

The devastating effect of the tsunami has forced authorities to warn residents and tourists in coastal areas around the Sunda Strait to stay away from beaches.
