Ondo varsity students ignore gov's threat, lockdown state capital in protest

A meeting by the University of Port Harcourt branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), was on Wednesday distrupted by protesting students of the university.

Confusion started when the placard carrying students under the auspices of the Students’ Union Government invaded the meeting of ASUU members, as the lecturers were preparing to brief journalists on the controversial issue of the Integrated Payment and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

When some of the lecturers decided to lock the door to stop the students from disrupting the ASUU media briefing, the Chairman, UNIPORT Branch of the union advised them against doing so.

The placard-bearing students immediately gained entry and started singing solidarity songs against the lecturers, who are ASUU members.

The lecturers were forced to leave the secretariat for another venue outside the university for the press conference.
