JAILED PASTOR: US threatens more sanctions on Turkey

The United States of America has threatened to deal more sanctions on Turkey over the continued detention of arrested American pastor Andrew Brunson.

That much information was revealed by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin while addressing a cabinet meeting on Thursday when he said that the next spiral of tit-for-tat sanctions was coming soon, deepening a spat that has rattled financial markets, if Brunson is not released by Turkey.

“We have put sanctions on several of their cabinet members,” said Mnuchin. “We have more that we are planning to do if they don’t release him quickly.

Washington and Ankara have been at loggerheads over the release of pastor Brunson who is held in Turkey.

Brunson, a Christian pastor from North Carolina who has lived in Turkey for more than two decades was detained by a court in Turkey on charges bordering on spying and terrorism and now faces up to 35 years in jail if found guilty.
