Kenyan's Kiptom wins Lagos marathon for the 2nd time

Kenya’s athlete, Abraham Kiptom has won the Access Bank 42.1km Lagos marathon on Saturday, a feat he also achieved in the last edition of the competition in 2016.

Over 100,000 athletes from 27 countries including Nigeria, participated in the race which had its starting point at the National Stadium in Surulere and terminated at Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.

The result is as follows:

1st – Abraham Kiptum – 2:15:23s

2nd – Ronny Kipkoech Kiboss – 2:15:25s

3rd – Kiprotich Kiroi – 2:15:30s.

“I want to retain my title and run a sub 2.10:00 on February 11, 2017,” Kiptum was quoted to have said in a statement made available by the Communications and Media Department of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, but the Kenyan made it in 2:15:23.

Philip Sharabutu crossed the finish line in time of 2:31:17s, making him the first Nigerian to do so, and the 17th athlete overall. While the second Nigerian to cross the finish line behind Sharabutu is Emmanuel Gyang.

Also, Fadakemi Olude was the first female Nigerian athlete to cross the finish line. And Babalola Hannah won the women’s wheelchair race.

Ojeleye Segun won the men’s wheelchair race, to make it a Nigerian clean sweep in the wheelchair category.
