KOWA Nat’l chairman, presidential candidate disagree over endorsement of Atiku

The national chairman of KOWA Party, Alhaji Saidu Bobboi, has dissociated the party from its presidential candidate, Adesina Fagbenro-Byron, anti-Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) statements in the media.

The party’s presidential candidate had launched a virulent series of condemnations against the CUPP in the aftermath of the CUPP’s endorsement of the former VP Atiku Abubakar as the coalition’s joint presidential candidate by questioning the process of that decision.

In a media statement made by the party’s national chairman in Abuja on Friday, Saidu Bobboi said: “The Party has noted with serious embarrassment the persistent condemnation of the CUPP by our presidential candidate, Dr Byron since the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the joint presidential candidate of the coalition.

“While we may have concerns about the process of the endorsement which we have expressed to the CUPP leadership, the party remains firmly committed to the CUPP.

“After our concerns have been expressed and the CUPP leadership gave explanations and apologised for errors made, as a party we not only remain an integral part of the CUPP but wholly supportive of the coalition’s joint presidential candidate.

“While he has a constitutional freedom of expression, our party’s candidate cannot assume the role of spokesman for the party.

“He can only speak for himself. We have full confidence in the party’s representative in the CUPP, Comrade Mark Adebayo, who has always briefed the party of all ongoings in the coalition.

“We agree that the process is not faultless, but as a coalition of over 40 political parties, perfection is difficult to attain.

“Therefore, we forgive whatever errors committed by the coalition. Henceforth, we will do everything within our capacity to support the coalition and its joint presidential candidate.”
