LAGOS: 5 crushed to death after truck fell on church bus

A group of church goers who were in a bus returning from a monthly vigil met their untimely end around 4am this morning when a truck fell on their vehicle in the Ojota area of Lagos killing as much as five victims.

According to the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Adesina Jamiu who confirmed the incident, three passengers were rescued when the truck carrying two 20ft containers fell on a commercial bus with Reg. No. FST 944 XR, crushing the victims to death on the spot.

“The incident happened at about 4.45 a.m. We got the information about eight minutes later we immediately moved down. We activated all primary rescue respondents.

“We brought out one female and two males alive. Unfortunately, five others, a boy of about 10 years, a woman and three men were brought out dead after using crane to lift the containers.

“The dead bodies were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, while those alive were taken to Lagos State Emergency unit at old Toll Gate Alausa.

“The truck with Reg. No. AKD 663 XF and the bus will be taken to LASTMA yard at Oshodi,” he said.

The GM of LASEMA said the driver of the truck who is now on the run is to blame for overloading the rickety truck with two 20ft containers which were too heavy for the old truck to carry forcing it to fall on the bus.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the truck driver according to Mr Fatai Owoseni, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, who also confirmed the tragic incident.

    I wish Nigerian government can create a special roads for trucks and heavy vehicles in Nigeria to avoid some unfortunate accident like this . This is our plan in Biafra because we value the lives of our people
