Police Sergeant, kidnapper killed in Anambra gun battle

Three suspected cult members have been arrested by officials of the Lagos state police command for allegedly killing two bureau de change operators and discarding their corpses in a septic tank at an abandoned property in Odogunyan area of Ikorodu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday said the suspects had approached the operators saying they had a relation who needed to sell $10,000.

However, when the victims arrived at Trailer park bus-stop, Odogunyan, where the supposed transaction was to take place, they were taken to an abandoned building where they were abducted.

He added that the victims were lured to an unknown destination and held captive, while a ransom of 1.6 million naira was demanded from them to secure their release.

“Despite the payment of N1.6m as ransom, the abductors refused to release the victims and nothing more was heard from them. The victims’ phones were also switched off.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Zubairu Mu’azu, detailed the Commander, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, to carry out investigation into the matter with a view to rescuing the victims and apprehending the suspects. The operatives, led by SP Godfrey Soriwei, arrested the three suspects, Oluwatosin Olanrewaju, Mayowa Olawuni and Babatunde Idris” Elkana said.

While the bodies were recovered from the septic tank for autopsy, the PPRO said that the suspects will be brought to book as soon as the investigation is completed.
