The Lagos State government has ordered all street traders, commercial drivers and squatters at the outer Marina area of the state to vacate the location, or face forceful eviction.

The order was issued in a statement on Friday by the Lagos State government through the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, who threatened to prosecute whoever fails to adhere to the directive.

Bello in the statement also disclosed plans by the state government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to commence work on the beautification and landscaping of the outer Marina area.

The commissioner said; “Operatives of the State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences Unit would from next week move to the area to enforce the law.

“I urge all commercial vehicle operators in the area to move to the designated parks, and stop the habit of picking passengers along the road. I also urge pedestrians to use the overhead bridge, as defaulters would be arrested.

“The State Task Force on Environment will also soon move to Ikoyi and Victoria Island to clean up the area by ridding it of all environmental nuisances, hawkers and street traders among others,” he added.
