Libya: ISIS shelling of oil terminals sparks wild fires

The regions of Sidra and Ras Lanouf in Libya, which are on the coast between Sirte and Benghazi, have been caught in wild fires after shelling by Islamic State (IS) militants on two oil terminals spreading to giant storage tanks, officials say.

War planes from Libya’s internationally recognised government have provided air support to help defend the area after officials revealed that at least 10 guards had been killed since IS attacked the neighbouring ports this week.

Terror group, IS has been operating in Libya for about a year, and in December France warned that the group was aiming to seize the country’s oil wells.
Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has been split between rival militias and two competing governments.
