The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu, on Thursday said that the agency in two weeks recovered $9.750million and £750,000 in the Kaduna residence of a former group managing director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

He did not however give the name of the official.

He stated this at a budget appraisal and defense session of the House of Reps Committee on Financial Crimes, informing the committee that the EFCC also recovered more than N1.9billion, $8.2million, £29.1million and €12.4million between January and December 2016.

A breakdown of the agency’s 2016 budgetary allocation presented to the committee showed that of N18,887,531,631 approved, N7.621billion was for personnel cost, N8.485billion was for capital, while overhead took up the remaining N2.750billion.

Following the record, only N14, 739,273,473.86 which represents 78.04 per cent has so far been released.

The acting EFCC chairman, therefore called for an increase in the commission’s budgetary allocation in order to allow it accommodate its new personnel as well as training of its officers.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Kayode Oladele, during the session also disclosed that Nigeria has applied to join the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as part of efforts to make stronger the country’s war against corruption.

Oladele, who applauded the move, said he was hopeful Nigeria will be absorbed as an observer member before the year runs out and subsequently become a full-fledged member as soon as possible.

This is why Buhari wants Magu as the EFCC boss, he’s capable and very active. Keep the good job up Magu, your credit is in heaven because Nigerians will end up betraying you.

Nigerians are tired of reading how EFCC recovered millions and billions of Naira without knowing where the recovered monies are and what they are used for. We need more details, EFCC should tell the masses what they’ve been doing with these recovered monies.

Tell magu to remember he is not the boss yet but acting. When he becomes the boss, he can say that. Thief wants increase in budget so there can be increase in what to siphon too.
