The implementation of data rollover policy by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) takes effect today, even as the commission placed N5 million fine on defaulting operators.

Under the new directive, telecommunication operators must henceforth add subscribers’ unfinished or unused data to their new data subscriptions from today, according to NCC.

The decision by the mobile regulator followed subscribers’ inability to use their unfinished or unused data subscription after the expiry date upon renewal.

Three weeks ago, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Umar Danbatta, had directed telecom operators to begin the implementation of the data rollover directive from June 26, 2018.

He said it is a way to ensure that the consumers’ rights, privileges and interests are adequately protected, adding that the operators have been duly informed about the development and they have also been given adequate time to prepare their networks for it.
