NiDCOM to investigate murder of Nigerian medical student in Philippines
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has vowed to investigate the alleged murder of a Nigerian medical student by a group of Chinese citizens in the Philippines.
Information about the killing of the student identified simply as Ikem, was made known by a user on X, @michaelojuola, who tweeted on Sunday that the deceased’s hands were tied with his mouth covered and beaten to death by some Chinese nationals.
While responding to the development on Monday, the Diaspora Commission said it would investigate the alleged killing of the medical student.
A statement by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocol Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the investigation is “intended to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the student.”

“The attention of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has been drawn to a viral social media news item on the death of a Nigerian student, identified as Ikem, who was allegedly murdered by a group of Chinese in the Republic of Philippines.
“Though the matter had not been officially reported to the Nigerian embassy in the Phillipines, NIDCOM has asked the eyewitness who posted the gory incident on his social media handle to provide more details to the Commission via e-mail, admin@nidcom.gov.ng.
“The Commission will set the machinery in motion to investigate the matter and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,”the statement reads.
