Niger turns back Kano bound truck

The Niger State Government on Wednesday turned back a truck carrying about 50 persons and headed for Kano for flouting the lockdown order in effect in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Matane, according to reports, asked the driver of the truck to return to where it came from while going round the state to access the level of compliance.

The truck was said to have been stopped by security personnel in the Gidan Kwano area when they saw people on top of the truck and their explanations were not reasonable, after which they alerted Matane, who heads the state’s Task Force on COVID-19.

Though the driver explained that they were coming from Lagos and going to Kano, promising not to stop in the state, the SSG ordered the security personnel to escort the trailer back to where it came from.

He said: “There is no waiver for any truck that is not carrying food items, fuel or other essential products to enter into the state.”
