NSE: Royal Exchange, UPL, Conoil lead gainers as market continues upward trend

The market maintained the current uptrend on Thursday as bargain-hunting efforts lifted equities further.
Gains in bellwethers such as Nestle, Dangote Cement and Nigerian Breweries largely accounted for the positive performance.

The market posted a positive breadth as 21 gainers emerged against 20 losers.

All the sector indices closed high save for the Banking Index which was down by 1.98% to 283.68 basis points by reason of losses recorded by heavyweights like Zenith, GTB and FBN holdings.

The All Share Index (ASI) went up by 0.87% to 24,354.25 basis points. Market capitalisation jumped to N12.692 trillion, expanding by N109.900 billion.

Year to date, the index is down by 9.27%.

TOP 5 GAINERS

Royal Exchange Insurance led gainers, appreciating by 10% to close at N0.22. UPL added up 9.82% to end today’s trade at N1.12. Conoil advanced by 9.77% to N19.10. Ardova rose to N15.30, notching up 9.68% in the process. ChiPlc completed the top 5, climbing up by 9.09% to N0.36.

TOP 5 LOSERS

Linkage Assurance topped the losers’ chart today, declining by 8.33% to close at N0.44. Wema shed 6.45% to end today’s trade at N0.58. Red Star Express fell to N2.85, losing 5%. Africa Prudential slumped to N3.71, recording 4.63% depreciation. Sterling Bank closed at N1.26, going down by 4.55%.

TOP 5 TRADES

431.582 million shares valued at N5.261 billion were traded today in 5,860 deals.

FBN Holdings was the most active stock with 115.568 million of its stocks worth N543.063 million traded in 384 deals. 75.900 million units of Zenith Bank shares priced at N1.140 billion exchanged hands in 867 transactions. GTB had 54.876 million shares valued at N1.222 billion traded in 534 deals. ETI traded 39.609 million shares estimated at N197.334 million in 219 transactions. Mutual Benefits traded 30.965 million shares valued at N6.434 million in 44 deals.
