Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Friday evening, confirmed that the state has recorded its first case of coronavirus.

Akeredolu, who disclosed this on his Twitter handle, said the victim is one of those already in the isolation center in the state.

He said: “We have just received confirmation of our first positive COVID-19 case this evening. The infected person is currently under isolation and would be monitored.

“We have activated all necessary protocol to locate all contacts and we’ve been working closely with NCDC.”

Also, the Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo, confirmed the development in a statement in Akure, the state capital.

The commissioner said: “It is with great concern that the Ondo State Government announces the index case. A suspected case tested positive to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Ondo State government had on Thursday closed the state borders with five neighbouring states in a bid to prevent the spread of the disease to the state.

The government also called for a three days prayer session to thank God for sparing the state from the COVID-19 scourge since February 17 when Nigeria recorded its first case of the disease.
