How Ondo Speaker, deputy were impeached, new ones elected

The Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker, Princess Jumoke Akindele, a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Okitipupa, was on Friday sacked by her colleagues along the deputy speaker, Fatai Olotu.

Their sack it was learnt, took place outside the Assembly premises after 15 PDP and five All Progressives Congress (APC) members out of the 26 members of the House voted for their impeachments from office.

The Assembly has been in a crisis situation since March 2016 when the Speaker and her deputy were first impeached by 18 out of the 26 members over their alleged highhandedness. Their removal was however overturned after Governor Olusegun Mimiko intervened in the matter.

Their sack is coming barely a month to the inauguration of a new governor in the state, Rotimi Akeredolu.
