OurMuMuDonDo movement suspends CharlyBoy after admitting he received N100m from Keyamo

The convener of the ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ coalition, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa ‘CharlyBoy’ has been suspended by the group after he admitted that he received the sum of N100 million from the President Muhammadu campaign team led by Festus Keyamo.

In a statement signed by Adebayo Raphael, a key official and facilitator of ‘OurMumuDonDo’ movement, CharlyBoy has been asked to proceed on compulsory suspension pending investigation into the bribery allegations.

CharlyBoy was accused in the statement of not only impugning the “credibility of the OurMumuDonDo Movement, but also the myriads of conscientious and genuine activists, rights groups and civil society groups in Nigeria.”

The statement added that CharlyBoy was asked to immediately recuse himself as chairman of the group due to his “amoral and illicit dealings”, failure of which “shall leave us with no other option but to ask members of the public to cease any further dealing and interface with you,” among other lawful steps to force compliance.

However, CharlyBoy insists that the money he received from Keyamo was payment for a politically-charged music video he recorded, to castigate Atiku Abubakar as an unscrupulous politician who should not be voted into power.

According to CharlyBoy, Keyamo met him privately weeks before the presidential elections, and they both discussed the arrest of Deji Adeyanju, a senior member of ‘OurMumuDonDo’ movement, only for him to then hear a “new song that I was working on…where I was dissing Atiku,” CharlyBoy said.

“I do not care. But if you want to use my work, you pay for it,” CharlyBoy recalled telling Mr Keyamo. “Of course, he paid for it. And they paid heavy,” CharlyBoy said in a widely shared video interview with online-based Roots TV.

Recall that Keyamo (SAN), had earlier dismissed claims by CharlyBoy, and Deji Adeyanju, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), both also members of the Our Mumu Don Do movement, that he offered the former President of the Performing Musician’s Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) money on behalf of the Buhari campaign.

Keyamo laughed off Charly Boy’s claim, saying it is nothing but the bandying of “phantom figures”.

He said he did not pay a penny to Charly Boy.

Keyamo who said this via a statement on his twitter handle, noted “I’ve been having some good laugh. Whoever thinks that I would pay a penny for a song by @Areafada1 that disses both the APC and PDP must have his/her head examined. If the quarreling parties want to hurt their egos by bandying phantom figures, they should leave me out of it.

“As we’ve said before, some of us ran the PMB campaign on zero budget as volunteers whilst the opposition was paying $90,000 monthly to an American lobbyist (N400 million per year). It’s therefore preposterous to suggest that a 9-figure amount or any at all was paid for a song!

“In the world of entertainment, it’s the culture of most (not all) entertainers to raise their stock in the public by bandying phantom figures for their engagements & some others display phantom acquisitions on social media to attract attention and raise their worth for clients.

“I’ve always encouraged @Areafada1 & @adeyanjudeji, who are my long-time friends & clients to continue on the path they chose for themselves. I will hate to see them fall apart. Therefore it behoves us all to work together to put things right. I always enjoy vibrant opposition!”.
