OWERRI: Bus, tanker crash at Njaba bridge claims 20 lives

The ever busy Owerri-Umuaka-Okwudor-Orlu federal highway witnessed a tragic accident on Saturday when no less than 20 people were feared dead following a crash involving a car and a tanker.

According to reports, the incident happened when an 18-seater commercial bus said to be fully loaded collided with a tanker filled with about 33,000 litres of premium motor spirit, PMS.

Only one victim survived the accident when she managed to come out of the crash alive but not without serious burns.

The actual cause of the incident was not readily ascertained but an eyewitness at the scene of the incident revealed that the accident was serious because both cars were travelling in opposite directions.

The witness said; “The tanker burst into huge flames as soon as the crash occurred. Only a female passenger was said to have managed to come out of the crash alive but sustained extensive burns. All the other passengers were burnt beyond recognition.”

As at the time of filing in this report, the Imo State Police Command was yet to comment on the incident.

This is not the worst of all the accidents, but, it’s still an accident and we have to still sympathize with those who lost their loved onces
