Petition won’t stop Amaechi’s screening, Melaye says

In spite of the petition against the nomination of former River State governor, Rotimi Amaechi for ministerial appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate on Thursday said it will go on with the process of screening him.

The Senate spokesperson, Dino Melaye, said on Thursday, that the Senate will not allow the petition stop it from screening or confirming Amaechi since it is a matter before a court.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators from Rivers State had submitted a petition against Amaechi urging the Senate not to screen or confirm him for ministerial appointment.

But Amaechi while appearing before the Senate committee on public petitions explained that he was challenging the issues contained in the petition in court.

Melaye who explained, that the Senate had a standing rule that matters before a court should not be examined, said, “So Amaechi has got no problem”.

Mr. Melaye also explained why the Senate postponed the ministerial screening to next week, saying some of the nominees were yet to submit their resumè and other documents required of them.
