Political riggers behind PDP crisis –Jegede

Peoples Democratic Party governorship hopeful in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has explained why his detractors are after him.

Jegede who spoke Sunday evening in Akure during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting, said political riggers, sensing a forlorn hope in the plot to rig the 2016 governorship election, tried to shut him out through any means, to achieve their aim.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of party members drawn from the 18 local council areas of the state, the gubernatorial contestant blamed the lingering legal tussle within the PDP on those who are scared of losing out at the poll.

“What has been going on is that they want to rig the election before election takes place. They are afraid of losing and have been deploying all antics to ensure that Eyitayo (himself) does not get there.

“But this is God’s own project; we do not wield the kind of influence they have but we are confident that God will give us victory,” he said.

The PDP contestant also explained the circumstances surrounding the suit that brought about the loss of his governorship ticket to Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim and said that he had implicit confidence in the judiciary to ensure that justice prevails.

Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Mr. Clement Faboyede, had urged the party members to go about their normal political activities as the party was confident that Jegede would reclaim his lost mandate obtained at the party primary election conducted last August.

In the same vein, Hon. Saka Lawal, who lost the PDP governorship primary election to Jegede said he had gone spiritual on the need for justice to be done in the de-listing of Jegede by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saying, “he emerged through a transparent process.”

Also speaking, a former Commissioner for Information in the Second Republic administration of Governor Adekunle Ajasin of the old Ondo State, Chief Segun Adegoke, said he was visibly shaken by the level of steadfastness and loyalty of the Ondo PDP members in their love for Jegede.

“I have seen series of political crises and witnessed turbulent periods, especially the bloodshed that occurred in Ondo State in 1983. But never have I witnessed this kind of steadfastness, loyalty, doggedness and faith displayed by the PDP members of Ondo State, to Jegede”, he stated.
