PRESIDENCY TO PDP: Stop playing irresponsible politics, herdsmen killings not new

The Presidency has responded to attacks that have been meted out on President Muhammadu Buhari’s government over the Saturday night massacre of no less that 86 persons in Plateau State.

It accused Nigerians, especially the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of using the unfortunate killings in Plateau State as an opportunity to play “irresponsible politics”.

Nigerians, including some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have lambasted President Buhari over his perceived failures to take decisive actions to bring to an end, the incessant killings by herdsmen suspected to be from his Fulani tribe.

The PDP, while condemning the ugly development had on Wednesday declared seven days of mourning.

But in a statement on Thursday, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina lambasted the PDP and said that its declaration of seven days of mourning amounts to dancing on the graves of the dead and playing cheap, infantile politics.

“The sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau State over the weekend have been turned to opportunity to, once again, play irresponsible politics, particularly by the Peoples Democratic Party, which says it is declaring seven days of mourning.

“These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics.

“The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half mast nationwide.

“But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls, and may remain so for a long time to come, because Nigerians are politically discerning, and cannot be hoodwinked by cheap antics,” the statement read.

Adesina then listed some killings, he tagged as “savage and brutal,” which according to him took place during PDP’s rule between 1999 and 2015, and for which no national mourning was declared.

He added that the list was prove that wanton killings had been with the country for sometime.
