After questioning by parliament over missing $15b, Mugabe faces land grab lawsuit

Embattled former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe faces a land grab lawsuit after a company belonging to him was ordered to vacate a prime urban land belonging to a private school, or face legal action.

According to the Reformed Church, a 23-hectare landed property in an upscale market suburb in Harare belonging to its Eaglesvale Group of Schools was taken over by Mugabe-owned Gushungo Holdings.

The schools’ lawyer Rodney Makausi told the BBC that in 2016 the government had sought compulsory seizure of the land.

Lawyers have demanded the company vacate the property by the end of the month or face legal action.

The land grab suit is coming days after the government of Zimbabwe summoned Mugabe to answer for missing $15 billion.

Norton MP Temba Mliswa, the Mines and Energy Portfolio Committee revealed during a sitting that Mugabe is set to appear before Parliament to expand on the allegations he made in 2016 that $15 billion worth of diamond revenue went missing.

Mliswa said Home Affairs minister Obert Mpofu, a former Mines minister, and his successor, Walter Chidakwa, would also be summoned for grilling over the disappearance of the diamond revenue during their tenure.
