RIVERS: Unknown gunmen kill 2 police officers, injure another

Men of the Rivers State Police Command are now on the hunt for a group of gunmen who shot and killed two officers in a police patrol vehicle and injured another in the state.

Reports say the gunmen who were in a Toyota Sport Utility Vehicle shot the police officers at close range leaving the victims with no room for survival while the third policeman on the patrol sustained serious injuries.

According to a police source, the incident happened on Ada George Road in Port Harcourt around 12.10am.

“The incident happened early on Wednesday. The gunmen were in a Toyota SUV and opened fire on the patrol vehicle of the policemen. Two died immediately. The third person was seriously injured, but he was rushed to a hospital,” the source said.

The incident was confirmed by Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, the state Police Public Relations Officer, who revealed that the injured police officer is battling for his life.

“It happened after 12 midnight. The policemen were shot and two of them died. The one that was injured is currently in a hospital, but in a critical condition,” he said.
