Ronaldo’s Portugal send spirited Morocco out of World Cup race

Having lost their first game against Iran, Morocco again failed to earn a point against Portugal on Wednesday as they become the first team to confirm their exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In the game played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Russia, Morocco were defeated 1-0 by Portugal thanks to Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar put his side ahead early in the game – the goal that ended up making the difference.

And despite a spirited fight by the Moroccans especially in the second half, the Africans wasted a lot of chances and just could not find the back of the net.

Ronaldo has now scored four goals at this year’s world cup, and has both the fastest (3:30 vs Spain) and the second fastest (3:58 vs Morocco) goals so far.

The current FIFA World best player also broke the record of Hungary’s Puskas to become the highest international goal scorer in Europe with 85 goals – plus 29 assists – from 152 caps.

The other game of the group between Spain and Iran holds later on Wednesday at the Kazan Arena.

Iran, on three points, will be hoping to regain top spot, while Spain, with one point, will seek to boost their chances of qualifying from the group.

Morocco will play Spain in their final game in Russia.
