RUSSIA MEDDLING: Trump’s son-in-law denies withholding WikiLeaks, Moscow emails

White House senior aide Jared Kushner has denied that he withheld emails about WikiLeaks and “a Russian backdoor overture” in 2016 as investigations continue into allegations of election meddling by Russia.

Reports say Kushner made the submission while fielding questions from congressional Russia investigators.

Kushner (Donald Trump’s son-in-law) also stated that he did not communicate with WikiLeaks and did not recall anyone on the Trump campaign who had, a source with knowledge of his testimony told CNN.

Two senators had accused Kushner of holding on to emails he received about WikiLeaks and “a Russian backdoor overture” in 2016.

The senators who said they became aware of the documents through other witnesses had earlier sent Kushner a letter demanding additional documents as part of an ongoing investigation into Russia’s alleged election meddling.

Recall that after the US elections last year, intelligence agencies concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered hacking of Democratic political groups to discredit the election and sway the voting towards Republican Trump, who won an upset victory in November.

Moscow has however denied any such meddling. Trump also has dismissed the allegations, suggesting instead that Obama might have wiretapped his Trump Tower in New York or that China may have been behind the cyber attacks.
