The Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream on Thursday requested the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to submit the list of workers employed during its 2018 recruitment.

The Senate said this was to fact check if the process met Federal Character requirements or not.

The agency which appeared for its budget defence was asked by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Tayo Alasoadura to present names and states of origin of the recruited staff.

In his response, the DPR Director, Mr Mordecai Ladan said all documents requested for would be made available while noting that the agency followed due process in recruiting over 500 workers.

“When we wanted to recruit, we informed all relevant committees in the National Assembly.

“Advertisements came out in November 2018, although there were things that needed to be sorted out and that made the process to last for six months and over 700, 000 people applied.

“The interview was conducted after one year. Meanwhile, the Federal Character Commission was involved in the process and every state was taken care of in the recruitment, catchment areas were also used,” he said.

The Senate also queried the reduction in the agency’s overhead cost by 50 per cent in the 2019 budget.

On that, Ladan said, “The budget office asked us to reduce the expenditure.”
