With Shekau still elusive, Air Force claims it may have killed his wife in airstrikes

While Abubakar Shekau, leader of the deadly Boko Haram sect, remains an elusive target, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Wednesday revealed that his wife, Mallama Fitdasi Shekau, may have been killed by airstrikes in one of its counterinsurgency operations.

Shekau has been at the top of the wanted list in the counterinsurgency offensive, and was only recently the subject of a forty-day capture or kill ultimatum issued by the Nigerian Army. With its unsuccessful expiration however, the army extended it indefinitely.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, stated that the force believed that the wife of the leader of the dreaded sect may have been killed by air strikes in a hideout in Durwawa area.

Durwawa, where the incident occurred is a community in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

This came as report claimed that the insurgent group was bombarded by fighter jets while they were having a meeting on Monday.
