Shock as 60-year-old father of five hangs him self in Ekiti

The community of Itapaji Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State was thrown into a state of confusion after a 60-year-old man, Mr Daniel Sakpe, hanged himself in his house.

It was gathered that his wife, on waking up in the morning, had gone looking for her husband when she noticed he was not around.

According to sources:

“When the wife could not get any response from her husband, she raised the alarm. The woman also woke up her daughter, Rebecca.

“It was in Rebecca’s attempt to search for her father with a torchlight that she found his lifeless body dangling from the ceiling in one corner of the house.”

A neighbour, who identified himself as Tunde, said, “The deceased was not moody and didn’t show any sign that he would commit suicide. He was one of those who conducted the church service in high spirit on Sunday.”

Neighbours within Omobayi area of the community who expressed shock over the tragic incident said they suspected nothing unusual that would have triggered the act. The deceased according to them was always full of life.

DSP Caleb Nwachukwu, Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that he was yet to be briefed about the incident but promised to go into further investigation once It had been confirmed.

His remains have since been deposited in the morgue while his reasons for taking his life remains a mystery.
