Shooter killed after attack on Chicago policeman

Another shootout between police and a civilian played out in Chicago when a cop was shot an injured by an armed man on Thursday night.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said the shooter was killed in the gun duel which occurred in the city’s South Side neighborhood.

Continuing, Supt. Johnson said the gunshot wound suffered by the police officer was on his thigh and the injury was not in anyway life-threatening.

Reports say a gun duel ensued after an altercation with a man making a phone call as he was approached by the officer and his partner who asked him to drop the call for questioning.

But the suspect pulled a gun out of a backpack and opened fire and in the process, other officers returned fire shooting and killing the suspect in the process while only one police officer sustained gun wounds.

“It’s another example of too many guns, too many people willing to use them,” Supt. Johnson said. “But it also demonstrates how Chicago police officers put their lives on the line every day to keep people safe.”
