SIERRA LEONE: Drop intention to contest outcome of run-off, Bio tells Kamara

The newly elected president of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio has urged his defeated counterpart of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) candidate, Samura Kamara to drop his intention to contest the outcome of the last run-off in court.

Kamara, who polled 48.19 percent in the last run-off of votes claimed that the polls were marred by fraud and he would challenge the result in court.

But Bio in an interview with Reuters said; “I’ll very much encourage him to move away from that path and come.

“He is a resource. He has the expertise and the experience. And I think we can put those to work in addition to all that we have to make sure that Sierra Leone is a better place,” Bio added.

The new president who narrowly edged out APC’s Kamara moved to fast-track his presidential oath in an hotel hours after emerging winner of the run-off.

Bio is now saddled with the task of improve health care system in the country following the devastating Ebola outbreak in 2014 among many other pressing needs.
