South Sudan confirms first case of Covid-19
South Sudan has confirmed its index case of coronavirus – a United Nation’s staff.
The country is the 51st African country to record a case of the pandemic viral infection.
The infected person is a 29-year-old woman who arrived in the country on February 28 and started having the symptoms of Covid-19, and got tested.
World Health Organization’s (WHO) country representative to South Sudan, Olushayo Olu, confirmed the case.
Mr Olu added, “working with the Ministry of Health and partners, WHO has shifted its focus from readiness to response. Time is critical now, we must now focus on tracing the people that the patient may have come in contact with to be able to isolate, test and provide them with medical care as need arises.”
