Former Nigeria International, Emmanuel Amuneke has led the national team of Tanzania to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Taifa Stars thrashed the Cranes of Uganda 3-0 at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, on Sunday to seal a spot in the Nations Cup for the first time in 39 years.

Goals from Simon Msuwa, Erasto Nyoni and a sublime header from Aggrey Morris secured the win for the hosts.

With the result, Amuneke’s boys finished second in group L with eight points, five behind leaders Uganda, who had already qualified for the finals.

It is worthy of note that before the game, Uganda had not conceded a single goal during their entire 2019 qualifying campaign.

The other group L fixture between Cape Verde and Lesotho ended in a goalless draw, which confirmed Tanzania’s qualification.

With the Taifa Stars in, it means four East African teams – Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Kenya – will play at the finals in Egypt.

So far, 23 teams have qualified for the continental showpiece that will feature 24 nations in Egypt.

The other spot will be decided when South Africa battle Libya later on Sunday.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will take place between June 7 and June 30, 2019.
