Trouble for Sen Nwaoboshi as court orders forfeiture of his properties, 22 bank accounts
Embattled Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is swimming deeper in troubled waters, as an Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has ordered the interim forfeiture of his properties to the Nigerian government over alleged non-declaration of assets.
During proceedings, the court made an initial order for the confiscation of 14 of his properties and 22 bank accounts linked to the Senator and traced to Zenith Bank, UBA, Access Bank and Sterling Bank which were all joined in the suit.
Senator Nwaoboshi who is battling for his political life amid a deepening probe of his wealth, which federal authorities argued was ill-gotten and should be forfeited, was given 30 days to justify how he acquired the properties and convince the court not to grant a permanent forfeiture of the assets to the Nigerian government.
Recall that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Abuja last Tuesday said it was not going to accept the application the Federal Government sent for the trial of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi over alleged non-declaration of assets.
CCT said the application, entitled “Re: CCT /ABJ/02/19 FRN V Senator Peter Nwaoboshi” and dated June 20 was full of defects and that it has returned the case-file to the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Nwaoboshi is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator and represents Delta North.
