UI College of Medicine provost, deputy test positive for coronavirus

The provost of the University of Ibadan (UI) College of Medicine, Professors Ezekiel Olapade-Olaopa and his deputy, Obafunke Denloye have tested positive for Covid-19 pandemic.

Olapade-Olaopa made his coronavirus status known to the public in a message he posted in a Whatsapp group on Sunday morning.

He wrote, “Dear colleagues, I wish to inform you that the deputy provost and I tested positive for the COVID-19 following the tests done on Friday.

“Although we are both asymptomatic, we have gone into self-isolation for the 14 days while our contacts are being observed closely to determine if they should also be tested.”

Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria has continued to increase on daily basis with Lagos, Abuja and Oyo states leading in the number of patients suffering from the dreaded disease.

The update on the disease released Saturday night by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control put the number of affected persons at 97 confirmed with Lagos having 59, FCT- 16, Ogun- 3, Enugu- 2, Ekiti- 1, Oyo- 7, Edo- 2, Bauchi- 2, Osun-2, Rivers-1, Benue- 1 and Kaduna-1.
