Vietnamese suspect imprisoned for murder of brother to N’Korean president regains freedom

A woman charged with the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has been released from prison. She had been in custody for two years before charges against her were dropped.

It was gathered that she was freed from a prison outside the Malaysian capital at about 7:20am on Thursday, her lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik said, adding that she would return to Vietnam later on Friday.

30-year-old Doan Thi Huong, 30, was charged along with an Indonesian woman Siti Aisyah for poisoning Kim Jong Nam by covering his face with liquid VX, a banned chemical weapon, at Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017.

According to Aljazeera, Huong’s release marks an end to the two-years-long case, but it hardly brings closure to the crime while South Korea has accused Pyongyang of plotting the assassination.
